All sorts of jazz, free jazz and improv. Never for money, always for love.
Free jazz: the alto sax master Noah
Opens to the gallery: Ayler Records is the name of a new Swedish jazz label.
As the name indicates free jazz is on the programme. First release is a
live recording with Noah Howard’s Quartet from Chicago 1997, Live at
the Unity Temple.
Howard has been active on the avant-garde scene since the 60th; he has played
with for instance Archie Shepp.
On the actual CD he sticks to the classical form resolution of the free
jazz, in other words to the essential. He opens with a simple, kind of to
the gallery melody on the alto saxophone. The other musicians back up. Tests
his ideas and peels of the ephemeral of the music, its superficial beauty.
In order to drill deeper, down towards one reflection of the music and its
absolute being. Then everything closes to a new, beautiful syntheses.
